Josh Hartnett Takes On Lethal Vampires

Recent Philippines visitor Josh Hartnett stars in Columbia Pictures’ new horror-thriller “30 Days of Night” as Eben, the heroic sheriff of Barrow, Alaska which each winter is plunged into a state of complete darkness that lasts 30 days. The cunning, bloodthirsty vampires, relishing in a month of free rein, are set to take advantage, feeding on the helpless residents. It is up to Eben and an ever-shrinking group of survivors to do anything and everything they can to last until daylight.

Josh Hartnett Takes On Lethal Vampires

“30 Days of Night” is based from the graphic novel by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith. The miniseries – just three books – became a career-defining moment for both. As they brought both a new look and a new story to the vampire legend, Niles’ and Templesmith’s work has been lauded as a revival of the horror comic.

Hartnett was impressed by the way that the original comic book blended all the best aspects of the genre. “It was funny and scary, a simple story but pure. I especially liked that it was character-driven – if you can follow interesting characters through the story, you can take the leap into their supernatural world.”

Before signing on to play Eben, Hartnett met with director David Slade to discuss the director’s vision for the film. “We went to a bar that I’ve been going to since I was 21 – it’s very familiar to me. As we were leaving, he took a couple of pictures of this bar and sent them to me in an e-mail a couple days later. The way he exposed them, they looked haunting – I didn’t recognize the place. I thought, ‘This guy’s gonna make something really creepy.’”

Josh Hartnett Takes On Lethal Vampires

"Josh’s take on the character is just right – though he’s by nature playing a romantic lead, he’s playing a fragmented hero, which I think is always more interesting,” says Slade. “He’s a flawed character, a person who loses his temper, a person who’s like you and me – and not an invincible strongman who goes around cutting vampires’ heads off.”

Hartnett made his feature film debut in 1998, co-starring with Jamie Lee Curtis in “Halloween: H20” for Miramax. That same year, he received an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Breakthrough Performance. In 2001, Hartnett landed the lead role in the Jerry Bruckheimer blockbuster “Pearl Harbor.” He then segued to Morocco, where he starred in “Black Hawk Down” for director Ridley Scott, again, a Jerry Bruckheimer production. In 2002, the National Association of Theater Owners awarded Hartnett the ShoWest 2002 Male Star of Tomorrow Award.

He recently starred in “Lucky Number Slevin” with Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis for The Weinstein Company, and in Brian De Palma’s “The Black Dahlia.” He is currently filming “I Come with the Rain” in Hong Kong after shooting key scenes in Mindanao, Philippines.

Opening across the Philippines on Oct. 31, “30 Days of Night” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Cine Europa

Guide to Cine Europa

Diving into a European film festival can be a daunting venture, with so many films to choose from. But fear not: here’s the dish on some of the best films of this year’s festival.

The ClickTheCity Guide to Cine EuropaMUST SEE: The Lives of Others (Germany)
Written and directed by Florian Denckel von Donnersmarck

Synopsis: Captain Wiesler is a wiretapping specialist who works for the East German Secret Police during the eighties. He is assigned to a dissident collaborating playwright, Georg Dreyman, and as he listens in on the radical’s private conversations, he begins to question everything he believes in, and he finds himself becoming sympathetic to the enemy’s cause.

Why you should see it: The Lives of Others won the 2007 Academy Award for best foreign language film, and for good reason. It is a truly wonderful and moving piece of cinema that never settles for the easy answers. It takes a pretty simple premise and turns it into a truly deep examination of all the ideologies that surrounded a genuinely complicated era. The acting and direction have garnered praise from all around the world, and it certainly deserves some of our local praise.

Screenings: October 22, 7:15 PM, October 29, 10:00 PM

The ClickTheCity Guide to Cine Europa

: Shooting Dogs (UK/Germany)
Directed by Michael Caton-Smith, written by David Wolstencroft

Synopsis: During the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, a Catholic priest and a English teacher struggle to make sense of all the ethnic violence and the complete inability of anyone to stop it.

Why you should see it: The Rwandan Genocide isn’t the easiest subject to tackle, but this film just tries to take it head on. The film was shot in Kigali, where everything actually happened, and employed many Rwandan massacre survivors. The film was an ambitious undertaking from the start, and it all the ambition translates pretty well on screen.

Screenings: October 23, 10:00 PM

The ClickTheCity Guide to Cine EuropaMOST INGMAR BERGMAN: Fanny and Alexander (Sweden)
Written and Directed by Ingmar Bergman

Synopsis: Fanny and Alexander have their idyllic family life shaken by the death of their father. Their mother marries a stern Bishop who makes their lives miserable. With the help of some magic, the two hatch a plan to escape the clutches of their stern new father.

Why you should see it: Ingmar Bergman is a true cinematic master, and his death this year was a blow to all film lovers everywhere. Fanny and Alexander is one of more accessible films of a director known for sometimes being incomprehensible, and is a good jumping-on point for anyone who wants to delve deeper into this master’s works.

Screenings: October 19. 8:00 PM, October 24, 2:00 PM, October 28, 4:00 PM.

The ClickTheCity Guide to Cine EuropaMOST MUSICAL:
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (France/West Germany)
Written and Directed by Jacque Demy. Music by Michel Legrand

Synopsis: Genevieve runs an umbrella shop with her mother in Cherbourg. She is in love with Guy, an auto mechanic, but he soon has to go off to war. The war keeps them apart, and as time passes, everything changes for them. Guy returns from the war only to find that Genevieve is no longer there.

Why you should see it: Every word in this film is sung. Every single one. The film paints a bright and colorful world filled with joy and music, and we really need that sometimes. It’s a kind of Technicolor spectacle that doesn’t really get made anymore.

Screenings: October 20, 6:30 PM, October 25, 12:00 NN, October 30, 4:50 PM

The ClickTheCity Guide to Cine EuropaMOST OBSCURE GEM: Closely Watched Trains (Czech Republic)
Directed by Jim Henzel. Written by Bohumil Hrabal and Jim Henzel

Synopsis: In German-occupied Czechoslovakia, young Milos works at a railway station. Sexually frustrated, he concentrates all his energy on losing his virginity, despite a war going on all around him.

Why you should see it: It is a crime that hardly anyone knows about Closely Watched Trains. Winner of the 1967 Academy award for best foreign language film, this film is one of the finest comedies ever made. It’s a sexual coming of age tale that also manages to comment on Authoritarianism. It’s like American Pie if it had a social conscience.

Screenings: October 19, 6:00 PM, October 24, 12:00 NN, October 28, 9:40 PM

FOR BRIDGET JONES FANS: Just Sex and Nothing Else (Hungary)

A Deadly LOVE

Im lost without you

At first we loved, but not again.
We met at the mall,
and we talked ever since.
We stood starring at each other,
I wondered the time, we'd
Stand together. Holding hands
as we walk down the street,
I wondered when our lips
Would meet.
My heart is broken, u seem
to ignore, The pain I
have, when u left me sore.
Our love was strong In which now your
heart is blind to see, now I feel
that your love has forgotten
completely about me.
Well all in all I'm heartbroken
Without u by my side,
I wish we could love each
other like we did that one time.

A Deadly Love

You walked into my life,
not knowing what to expect.
The anger and darkness that filled me frightened you,
but something kept you from leaving me.

Not knowing why you're still here,
your mind is a roller coaster of thoughts,
and feelings you never expected,
But strangely you never wanted them to end.

I could see your feelings grow for me;
the lust in your eyes cannot be mistaken,
with each day it grows more and more,
like the moon in the night's sky.

You're still confused on why you stay,
Knowing that your life could end at any moment.
The danger you're in, from just being with me,
excites you in a way you never knew existed.

What you don't realize is that I know what you are feeling;
you generally love me for the person I am.
What you don't know is that I am not a person at all,
but a creature of the night, a creature that could kill you at any moment.

And yet I let you stay, knowing what I could do,
I fear that I might have feelings for you.
They grow with each passing moment of time we spend together,
but I could never let it go too far, for you would never come back.

So as I watch you, and see your love grow for me,
I know that soon you will be gone forever.
And somehow you know this too,
but you're not afraid you're numbed by your lust for me.

As I watch you die, knowing I could have stopped it,
I tell myself that you meant nothing, but we both know that's not true,
I truly loved you and look at what I did to you.

***** Thanks for the friendship*****

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween.......
History of Halloween

like any other festival's history is inspired through traditions that have transpired through ages from one generation to another. We follow them mostly as did our dads and grandpas. And as this process goes on, much of their originality get distorted with newer additions and alterations. It happens so gradually, spanning over so many ages, that we hardly come to know about these distortions. At one point of time it leaves us puzzled, with its multicolored faces. Digging into its history helps sieve out the facts from the fantasies which caught us unaware. Yet, doubts still lurk deep in our soul, especially when the reality differs from what has taken a deep seated root into our beliefs. The history of Halloween Day, as culled from the net, is being depicted here in this light. This is to help out those who are interested in washing off the superficial hues to reach the core and know things as they truly are. 'Trick or treat' may be an innocent fun to relish on the Halloween Day. But just think about a bunch of frightening fantasies and the scary stories featuring ghosts, witches, monsters, evils, elves and animal sacrifices associated with it. They are no more innocent. Are these stories a myth or there is a blend of some reality? Come and plunge into the halloween history to unfurl yourself the age-old veil of mysticism draped around it.

Behind the name... Halloween, or the Hallow E'en as they call it in Ireland , means All Hallows Eve, or the night before the 'All Hallows', also called 'All Hallowmas', or 'All Saints', or 'All Souls' Day, observed on November 1. In old English the word 'Hallow' meant 'sanctify'. Roman Catholics, Episcopalians and Lutherians used to observe All Hallows Day to honor all Saints in heaven, known or unknown. They used to consider it with all solemnity as one of the most significant observances of the Church year. And Catholics, all and sundry, was obliged to attend Mass. The Romans observed the holiday of Feralia, intended to give rest and peace to the departed. Participants made sacrifices in honor of the dead, offered up prayers for them, and made oblations to them. The festival was celebrated on February 21, the end of the Roman year. In the 7th century, Pope Boniface IV introduced All Saints' Day to replace the pagan festival of the dead. It was observed on May 13. Later, Gregory III changed the date to November 1. The Greek Orthodox Church observes it on the first Sunday after Pentecost. Despite this connection with the Roman Church, the American version of Halloween Day celebration owes its origin to the ancient (pre-Christian) Druidic fire festival called "Samhain", celebrated by the Celts in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Samhain is pronounced "sow-in", with "sow" rhyming with cow. In Ireland the festival was known as Samhein, or La Samon, the Feast of the Sun. In Scotland, the celebration was known as Hallowe'en. In Welsh it's Nos Galen-gaeof (that is, the Night of the Winter Calends. According to the Irish English dictionary published by the Irish Texts Society: "Samhain, All Hallowtide, the feast of the dead in Pagan and Christian times, signalizing the close of harvest and the initiation of the winter season, lasting till May, during which troops (esp. the Fiann) were quartered. Faeries were imagined as particularly active at this season. From it the half year is reckoned. also called Feile Moingfinne (Snow Goddess).(1) The Scottish Gaelis Dictionary defines it as "Hallowtide. The Feast of All Soula. Sam + Fuin = end of summer."(2) Contrary to the information published by many organizations, there is no archaeological or literary evidence to indicate that Samhain was a deity. The Celtic Gods of the dead were Gwynn ap Nudd for the British, and Arawn for the Welsh. The Irish did not have a "lord of death" as such. Thus most of the customs connected with the Day are remnants of the ancient religious beliefs and rituals, first of the Druids and then transcended amongst the Roman Christians who conquered them.

MANILA, Philippines -- The explosion that ripped through the Glorietta 2 Mall in Makati City early Friday afternoon, killing eight people and wounding more than a hundred others was caused by a “hard explosive,” mostly likely TNT or the military ordnance C4, police said.

Chief Inspector Raynold Rosero of the Philippine Bomb Data Center said the explosive went off near an escalator and could have been exacerbated by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks in nearby restaurants.

"We've submitted the evidence to the crime lab for chemical analysis and we saw that near the scene of [the] explosion were establishments with LPG," he said.

Rosero said they have yet to determine whether the explosion was set off by a timer or triggered remotely by cellular phone, the signature attack of the Al-Qaeda linked Southeast Asian terror network Jemaah Islamiyah and the local Abu Sayyaf.

He described the explosion as "most likely a deliberate attack."

Philippine National Police Director General Avelino Razon and Alfonso Reyes, spokesman of Ayala Corp., which operates the Glorieta 2 Mall where the explosion occurred at around 1:40 p.m., said eight people had been killed.

Makati Councilor JunJun Binay, who has been providing regular updates on the situation, said the injury count had climbed to at least 126 -- 98 of these needing hospitalization and 28 other victims given first aid at the blast site for minor injuries.

Of the injured, Binay said, three are listed in critical condition and in the Intensive Care Unit of the Makati Medical Center. At least one other victim is undergoing surgery as of this posting.

Binay also said at least one of the dead was a Korean.

A partial list of the injured at the Makati Medical Center (see list at end of article) showed another Korean and a Chinese national were among the injured.

Police investigators at the scene of the explosion identified four of the dead as Liza Marquez, Jose Allan de Jesus, Lester Peregrina and nursing student Janine Marcos. All died of shrapnel injuries. Another fatality was later identified as Maureen De Leon.

At an earlier press briefing carried live by radio and television, Dr. Ernesto Santos of the Makati Medical Center said the four fatalities were “dead on arrival” and at least two of the wounded were “critical.”

Santos said the other casualties all suffered “blast injuries.”

Dr. Anthony Golez, spokesman of the National Disaster Coordinating Council and deputy administrator of the Office of Civil Defense, told from the Makati Medical Center that the four died due to "burns and massive internal bleeding."

"It doesn't look good," he said.

Director Geary Barias, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office, said they are not discounting anything," including the possibility that the explosion was a terrorist attack.

Barias also said there had been no intelligence reports prior to the blast, despite a terror alert issued earlier this month by the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, which is composed of various security institutions like the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“We actually picked up several dead and wounded,” Binay said.

He said the explosion left an eight-meter (26-foot) wide crater on the ground floor and blew a hole through the roof on the second floor.

"From what I have seen it was a significant explosion and that most of the dead and injured were all employees," he said.

Witnesses said the blast occurred in a section of the mall with clusters of stores selling baby clothes and toys.

The explosion had panicked shoppers running out of the mall as smoke billowed out of the building.

Mall security and police immediately sealed off the area and shepherded people away as ambulances rushed in to evacuate casualties.

People leaving the mall told said they felt the whole shopping complex shake as from an earthquake as the “strong” explosion happened in the area between the Glorietta 1 and 2 buildings. They also said they saw windows shatter from the blast.

Witnesses said part of a ceiling collapsed while a concrete wall was blown out.

Two cars and two delivery vans were buried under wooden planks and concrete debris outside the mall.

"It was so powerful," clothing store clerk Jeric Balendes told AFP on the scene, as rescuers applied first aid on his cuts and bruises.

"The roof just collapsed on us. I could hear my three co-workers screaming. I got out through a small hole. I don't know if they got out."

One of the injured, Teresita de La Cruz, 24, recalled thinking: "Are we going to die here?"

"People were panicking and shoving each other, and running in all directions. I was very scared," she told reporters outside the Makati Medical Center.

De La Cruz, a saleslady for a custom sticker company, said the blast likely originated from somewhere on the second floor near the escalator. "It was just one explosion, but it was loud and strong," she said.

But the police, citing initial reports, said the blast may have originated from the storeroom of the Luk Yuen restaurant, which was initially tagged as the site of the blast.

Bomb debris carpeted a 200-square-meter (2,100-square-foot) area, he added.

"The ceilings are damaged and may collapse," Barias said.

The entrance to the mall, the lobby and the activity center were a total wreck, buried under piles of wooden planks, slabs of cement, and parts of the roof.

Rosero said police were clearing the rubble, adding it could be dangerous for investigators to stay inside the mall to gather more evidence.

"There are hazards. There is falling debris inside, there could be a chemical leak [or] high-voltage wires, and the water inside is knee-deep," he said.

He added that the concrete floor of the area had also been raised by the blast.

Binay said all fatalities appear to have been recovered and search and rescue operations were called off Friday night.

Barias also inspected the nearby SM mall to ensure there will be no other explosions.

The United States and Australia both offered technical help in investigating the blast, and Australian experts were understood to be helping Filipino police on the scene.

Binay said roads to hospitals in the city have been secured as rescue teams continued to scour the area where the explosion occurred, which the councilor described as “severely damaged,” for more possible victims.

“We’ll keep the area evacuated until we know more,” Reyes said.

He also assured the victims and their relatives of assistance from Ayala Corp.

“We will certainly makes sure [that] anyone [who] needs attention will be able to get it,” Reyes said.

Police did not immediately name likely suspects for the attack, but Islamic extremists were blamed for a bomb attack on a bus near the site of Friday’s explosion. That attack killed four people in February 2005.

Militants also firebombed a ferry on Manila Bay the previous year, killing more than 100 people in the country's worst terrorist attack.

Arroyo's National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales has previously said the government was not ruling out future attacks on "soft" targets such as shopping malls.

Following are the names of 34 of the injured rushed to the Makati Medical Center. The list is current as of 3 p.m. Friday.

No clouds in my storms
Let it rain, I hydroplane into fame (Rihanna: eh eh)
Come'n down with the dow jones
When the clouds come we gone
We rocafella (Rihanna: eh eh)
She fly higher than weather
And she rocks it better
You know me
An anticipation for precipitation, stacks chips for the rainy day (Rihanna: eh eh)
Jay, rain man is back with lil ms.sunshine
Rihanna where you at?

[Verse 1]
You had my heart, and we'll never be world apart
Maybe in magazines, but you'll still be my star
Baby cause in the dark, you can't see shiny cars
And that's when you need me there
With you I'll always share

When the sun shines
We'll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be your friend
Took an oath imma stick it out 'till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh eh eh eh)

[Verse 2]
These fancy things, will never come in between
You're part of my entity, here for infinity
When the war has took it's part
When the world has dealt it's cards
If the hand is hard, together we'll mend your heart

When the sun shines
We'll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be your friend
Took an oath imma stick it out 'till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh eh eh eh)

You can run into my arms
It's okay don't be alarmed
(come into me)
(there's no distance in between our love)
So go on and let the rain pour
I'll be all you need and more

When the sun shines
We'll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be your friend
Took an oath imma stick it out 'till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh eh eh eh)

just want to clear something about thing that never ever happens...

Yeah... i like you.... nothing more nothing less... you know the story and some of my friend also know the story... let me give you idea first...

for last last 3 or 4 months i think... i got your number from a very close friend of mine and she is Kat Macadini, i text you and informed you or give you idea about things, I told you thru text that i like you, i know that i never sent a msg telling that im brisky to have you and be part of my life, or i dont even told you tha Joseph i really really i like you or something! dahh........and i even posted the msg or our conversation here in my blog.

After few days.... i invited you to watched movies( i text you that and i think im inviting you to watch Harry Potter sa Rockwell) but then again hindi sya natuloy bec. of some reasons that was told to me by a friend Flow and as what you told me when we are in calatagan. (clear, yeah i invited you to watch movie but then again it doesnt mean na nanliligaw ako noh)

Calatagan days.... the 2nd day we talked about some of our personal and love life, i even confirm or ask you about the things that i told you to my text like your reaction about it, and i even ask you about some questions, as far as i know we never had a conversation about things or about what i fill for you. I mean i did not or i dont remember saying that i want you to be my BF..... dah not my thing! i can say that it was a plain conversation between the two of us, THAT's IT

as the things/days goes by... we got close...we smoke together, we drinked coffee with some of my friends, and etc... during those moments no one opened up or no one ask about the like like thing.... that is a conversation under the sun... meaning plain kwentuhan....

this is the things events that i remmember....

Now, Val asked you " Bakit hindi na lang maging kayo" then you answer her " its not posible..... we are just friends, napag usapan na namin yun...." i am so so nagulat bec... i dont remember na we talked about it... never ever... "Busted Ka pala eh" i dont want to react about the statement na sinabi mo kasi ayaw kung mapahiya ka! ok lang fine... the next day you even told Peter about busted busted thing.... I think this time its time for me to react....

Joseph Ramos.....

I never make a move.... I never find a way na maging tayo...never ako na manligaw sau, i never said that I LOVE YOU, to make it short I never make any move para maging tau.

Busted.... what??? how come? Busted in what why? Nanligaw ba ako?

what are you trying to prove? I really really dont know... clueless ako...

baka naman after this issue... biglang may marinig na lang ako ulit na

"HINDI KO MATANGGAP ang pag ka busted sa akin thats why im reacting this way...."

well if that the case....

bahala na kau...

all i know is i never ever make any move na maging tau....

the word busted is para lang sa mga tao na nanliligaw but im not!!!!

I Like you but it doesnt mean that i love you....

hope everthing is clear NOW
